Hiking Elopement at Mt Rainier National Park

Tyler and Jessica’s hiking elopement at Mt Rainier was – in a single word – epic! Not only did these two pick a stunning trail with incredible views for their elopement ceremony, but they also invited two close loved ones along to help them celebrate. Keep scrolling to read about their adventurous hiking elopement and learn my number one tip to consider when including a hiking adventure on your wedding day.

Tyler + Jessica’s Adventurous Hiking Elopement at Mt Rainier

When it came to planning their wedding, neither Tyler nor Jessica wanted a big event. So, they did something else instead. They planned a private hiking elopement and chose a trail with epic views of Mt. Rainier. The particular trail they chose involved a bit of a hike, but Tyler and Jessica were all in! They even brought along Jessica’s sister and her partner for the adventure.

An Adventurous Hike with Breathtaking Views

When the big day arrived, we packed up all their gear (suit, dress, flowers, and all), and started up the trail. Not only did we spot a few marmots on the trail, but the views along the way were stunning. We kept stopping every few feet to take it all in.

Getting Ready on the Mountaintop

Once we reached the top, Tyler and Jessica unpacked their bags and got ready (with the most incredible view of Mt Rainier behind them the entire time). Jessica’s sister helped her into her dress which was such a sweet moment.

A Private Elopement Ceremony in the Clouds

One of the things about eloping at Mt Rainier National Park (or any mountain elopement location, for that matter) is you never quite know what kind of weather you are going to get. Even if it is sunny at the base of the mountain, the higher elevations can cover the mountain with clouds. For Tyler and Jessica’s hiking elopement, we got so lucky! The weather was beautiful and the clouds rolled in and out all day, making for some of the most dreamy views.

After the couple shared their first look, it was time for their elopement ceremony. Jessica’s sister officiated the wedding, which added so much emotion and meaning to this already meaningful moment. Of course, Mount Rainier continued to stand proud and tall in the background with wispy clouds adding to the magic.

A Mountain-Top Picnic and First Dance

After the ceremony, we wandered around, taking group photos and couple portraits while enjoying the panoramic mountain and valley views. Tyler and Jessica popped champagne and celebrated their marriage with a mountain-top picnic complete with charcuterie and cake!

As the sun began to set, they shared their first dance as the most beautiful golden light covered the mountains. It was one of the most magical moments of the day and a perfect way to end their incredible hiking elopement!

Important Information to Keep in Mind When Planning a Hiking Elopement

As I mentioned earlier, mountain weather can be unpredictable. While we can do our best to plan for the best weather possible, Mother Nature has a mind of her own. Tyler and Jessica’s day was a perfect example of this. While we got mostly sunny skies, the clouds passed in and out all throughout the day. This truly is what adventure elopements are all about – embracing whatever comes your way.

When planning your own hiking elopement in the mountains, consider packing extra layers (mountain temps are often much cooler), clear umbrellas (just in case the weather shifts), and a go-with-the-flow spirit because that is where the true magic happens!
