Mikaela & Conner’s Vintage Inspired Wedding at Crag Rat Hut

newlyweds under the bride's veil at sunset during their vintage inspired wedding.

I always love it when couples bring a clear vision to their wedding day and let their personalities lead the way. A wedding is really a chance to celebrate your story in a way that feels completely like you, and Mikaela and Conner’s vintage-inspired wedding did exactly that. Their day paired so beautifully with their venue, Crag Rat Hut, creating a celebration that felt intentional, personal, and full of character. Here’s a little glimpse into their day, along with what I love about this unique Columbia River Gorge venue.

A Look Inside Mikaela + Conner’s Vintage-Inspired Wedding Day

Embracing A Vintage-Inspired Aesthetic for Their Wedding

Mikaela and Conner included so many thoughtful vintage touches throughout their wedding day that made everything feel truly personal. One of my favorite details was Mikaela’s dress, especially the fringe veil, which was a fun addition and fit the overall vibe perfectly.

They also chose to embrace a few more traditional wedding moments, like waiting until the ceremony to see each other for the first time and writing heartfelt handwritten vows. Even their cake gave an aesthetic nod to another era, with intricate piped swags and fun orange slices for a pop of color that felt like the perfect vintage-inspired finishing touch.

Bringing Mikaela’s Mom’s Dress Back to Life

One of the sweetest parts of the day was how Mikaela included a family heirloom in such a meaningful way. She brought her mom’s vintage wedding dress back to life by altering it into a shorter reception look, which turned out super stylish and fun. The best part was that her mom had no idea, and getting to document that surprise made the whole moment feel even more special.

Taking in the Beauty of the Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge really showed off during their vintage-inspired wedding day. Between the rolling hills, vineyards, and mountain views, the scenery felt absolutely incredible. One of my favorite photo moments was when the couple and I stepped away for sunset portraits while the light filtered through the trees and lit up their silhouettes. It was such a sweet moment of stillness and beauty in the middle of all the celebration.

What I Love About Crag Rat Hut

Before Mikaela and Conner’s vintage-inspired wedding, I had actually never photographed at Crag Rat Hut, but it quickly won me over. Between the history, the views, and how flexible the space is, it’s such a fun and unique venue. Here are just a few reasons why I loved it so much.

A History Rooted in the Mountains

If you’re wondering where the name Crag Rat Hut comes from (I was), it actually has a pretty cool history. The venue is the clubhouse of the Crag Rats, the oldest mountain rescue organization in the country, founded back in 1926. The space still holds on to much of that history, too, especially through the 1960s cabin design with its wood and stone details. It gave the venue a cozy, nostalgic feel and paired perfectly with Mikaela and Conner’s vintage aesthetic.

Highlighting the Beauty of the Hood River Valley

One of the best things about Crag Rat Hut is its location in the Hood River Valley on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. You’re surrounded by incredible views in every direction, with a really beautiful mix of rolling hills, nature, vineyards, and mountain scenery. Since it’s located just north of Mount Hood, you can even have stunning mountain views as the backdrop to your ceremony, just like Mikaela and Conner did.

A Venue That Supports Your Vision

If you have a really specific vision for your wedding day, Crag Rat Hut gives you a lot of flexibility to bring it to life. In fact, there aren’t required vendors, which means you can build a team that genuinely fits your vision. Whether that’s a caterer you’ve had your eye on, a favorite DJ, or a specific bakery for your cake, you’re free to choose what feels most like you.

Crag Rat Hut is just one of the many Columbia River Gorge wedding venues I love. If you’re still exploring, I have a blog with some of my favorite spots in the Gorge!

Mikaela and Conner’s vintage-inspired Crag Rat Hut wedding was so much fun to document, and I loved all the beauty and details that perfectly complemented the venue. Speaking of the venue, I can’t wait to come back and photograph another wedding there. I already love the Columbia River Gorge, so Crag Rat Hut is just another reason it’s one of my all-time favorite places.
