Special Touches From Lyndea + Steven’s Thornewood Castle Wedding
A DIY Spirit
After meeting in Alaska, Lyndea and Steven brought that same adventurous, self-sufficient vibe to their wedding. They crafted all the florals and decor themselves, letting a playful, DIY spirit shine through every part of the day. Then, during their reception, they shared temporary tattoos and giant cutouts of their cats for a lighthearted moment at the end of their night.
Full of Feeling
Lyndea and Steven’s wedding was full of personality and heartfelt moments. From tear-jerking handwritten vows to an intimate first look at the aisle, they fully leaned into the emotions of the day. And once the reception kicked off, they brought a fun, high-energy vibe to the dance floor.
Preserving Memories
It meant so much to see how genuinely excited these two were to have their wedding day documented. Since I’d already photographed their engagement session, I had already gotten to know them a bit and understood what they were hoping for with their photos. They fully embraced every moment in front of the camera, knowing these memories would be ones they’d carry with them for years to come.

Getting to the Thornewood Castle Wedding Venue
Thornewood Castle is located in Lakewood, WA, just a short drive from both Tacoma and Seattle. The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is about an hour north, making it a convenient spot for out-of-town guests to fly into. There’s also plenty of on-site parking, and attendees even have the option to stay overnight in the castle (how cool is that?).
Ceremony Options
With space for up to 200 guests, Thornewood Castle has several indoor and outdoor wedding ceremony locations you can choose from. Outside, the Sunken English Garden brings classic manicured romance, while the lawn by American Lake offers wide, scenic waterfront views. Inside are several historic spaces. The Great Hall showcases 16th-century stained glass and a sandstone fireplace, and the Ballroom is filled with antique furniture and a grand chandelier.
When planning your PNW wedding, you probably already know that the weather here can be unpredictable. Luckily, Thornewood Castle has plenty of options just in case some inclement weather rolls in, whether that’s pivoting to one of the indoor spaces or setting up a tent.
