When the smoke rolled in over Lost Lake for Leah and Kevin’s engagement session, I knew that we had something special. Even though the weather was different than what we initially expected, they were rockstars the entire time. Read more about this special engagement photo session that I am still obsessing over!
Leah + Kevin’s Love Story
Leah and Kevin first met as co-workers over seven years ago, and last December the couple got engaged at a resort lodge in Sunriver, Oregon! Kevin had planned an intimate proposal with the two of them and their two dogs, Timber and Louis, and being wintertime, snow was in the air making for a seriously romantic moment!
Leah and Kevin love spending quality time together (and with their dogs, of course) and exploring nature. Lucky for them, they got plenty of outdoor adventuring during their engagement session at Lost Lake!
A Romantic Lost Lake Engagement Session
Leah and Kevin always knew they wanted to have a lake engagement session. They had initially planned to take their photos at Leah’s grandparents’ private lake on the east side of Mt. Hood, but sadly, this location was unavailable so I helped them find a spot for their engagement session. Lost Lake was the perfect location as it provided a similar feel to the couple’s original location.
When we initially started planning their Lost Lake engagement session, one of the things Leah and Kevin had mentioned was having a row boat to use for their photos. Before their session, I made sure that the lake would have some available for us to use.
The day of their session we arrived at the lake only to find that smoke from a nearby fire had dramatically reduced the visibility and enveloped the lake in a sort of hazy fog. Still, Leah and Kevin decided to make the best of it and continue with their engagement photos. As they rowed out onto the water, the smoke (which we thought might be a downside) seriously became the main character. It created one of the most unique backdrops I’ve ever shot in and gave the photos a vintage feel, which is exactly what the couple had been hoping for! After returning the boat to shore, Leah and Kevin ended their session on a fun note by splashing around in the lake.
Engagement Photo Tips for the Weather
When it comes to planning adventure engagement photos, one of the things we can’t control is the weather. While we can do our best to plan for the ideal time, sometimes the weather turns out differently than we expect. I know that it can be disappointing when things change, but I always like to remind couples that these surprises can often lead to even more memorable and beautiful photos, just like they did with Leah and Kevin. I’m so glad these two decided to follow through with the shoot and I am seriously in LOVE with these one-of-a-kind pictures!
Leah and Kevin’s Lost Lake engagement session was one of my favorite moments from 2023! I’m so happy I got to capture their love in such a unique and meaningful way. For more Mt.
