The first and most important thing to remember when choosing your engagement photo outfits is to choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Your clothing should reflect your personal style and include items that are absolutely authentic to you! Think about those items that you gravitate towards often or the ones that make you feel your best! This will help you feel and look more confident in photos!
Choose Muted or Neutral Colored Clothing
When choosing what outfits to wear for your engagement photos, it’s best to focus on neutrals and muted color tones. Bright or bold colors can often be distracting though sometimes a pop of color can work. It simply depends on your surroundings and the type of photos you are looking for.
Oftentimes, couples think their clothing needs to match but that is not true. It’s better to focus on complimenting colors or patterns than an exact match.
Speaking of patterns, if you opt for patterned clothing, look for patterns that are minimal and stay away from anything that is too busy. Bold or large patterns often tend to date faster, so it’s best to go for a timeless, classic look rather than something that is trendy. It’s also best to avoid logos if possible. Clothing with logos or graphics can be distracting and this type of clothing tends to date your photos much quicker.
Dress Up or Down…or Both!
If you’re having trouble deciding whether to wear something casual or a bit more dressy I have good news. You can absolutely do both! Most couples choose to wear two outfits to their engagement session; one casual date outfit and one dressy outfit. This gives your photos some variety while still showing off your personalities.
Another way to change the look of your photos is by including accessories. Bring jackets, sweaters, or different accessories to switch out. This can change your look without requiring you to completely change outfits.
